Marketing & DECA Off to Great Start!
All of our Marketing classes are off and running! These include Principles of Business & Marketing (Mr. Clarke), and Marketing; Advanced Marketing; Sports, Entertainment, & Recreation Marketing; CoOperative Education (Mr. Kuhn). In Marketing, students learn concepts and principles that they will no doubt use daily throughout their lives. In a nutshell, Marketing is simply "creating satisfying exchanges." From producer to final consumer, and everyone in between, the goal is for ALL parties to be happy with each transaction.
DECA is the association of Marketing students. The actual letters formerly stood for "Distributive Education Clubs of America," but that teminology is outdated. We are close to 60 members this year, a record for Park View DECA! The students are looking forward to several upcoming events. We will be competing in our first informal district competition on Virginia DECA Day, which is November 14th. This will take place in Roxboro, NC, where 7 schools will bring students to compete in a Quiz Bowl competition and a Chapter Promotion contest. Chapter officers will be installed, and a District President will be selected. Our Park View DECA president, LaMarcus Davis, is running for District President. GO LAMARCUS!!!!! Our remaining chapter officers are: Cassie Alexander (Vice-President); Rickey Dunson (Secretary/Treasurer). These 3 students will be attending the DECA Officer Training Conference in Richmond on October 27th.
In December, DECA will team up with Park View's FBLA and Computer Technology students to attend a Washington Wizards NBA game, complete with an informative pre-game seminar and a college fair! This trip is always a hilight of our year and very exciting! Our first formal District competition will take place in Danville in January. We are confident that Park View will outdistance the other 6 district schools and bring home many awards!
Our annual "Tableshops & Trivia" project is about to begin. The Marketing students sell ads to local businesses that will be seen on table tops of local restaurants. The attractive acrylic display holders will be highly visible for 6 months (Jan.-June), giving advertisers maximum exposure for their advertising dollar. Be sure to look thru them and have some fun trying to answer the S.O.L. related "trivia" questions. Since Marketing is an essential part of every business, we encourage local community & business leaders to speak to our classes. If you are in a position to volunteer to be a guest speaker, we'd love to have you! Just contact me at the school.
